On Prophecy
with Elder Malcolm Scott

“The manifestation of the spirit of prophecy was designed for all dispensations. The sacred record nowhere restricts it to any particular period of time, from the fall to the final restitution. “

Prophecy, according to Seventh-day Adventist beliefs, is God’s way of simultaneously disclosing His plans and guiding His people. It serves as both a warning and a promise, pointing to Jesus as the principal figure in salvation history. Biblical prophecies predict key events, including Christ’s victory over sin and the inevitable final judgment.
The first prophecy in the Old Testament (Genesis 3:15) foretells God’s victory over Satan through Christ’s crucifixion. This was fulfilled when Jesus died on the cross (Luke 23:46), defeating Satan and the kingdom of darkness (Colossians 2:15). Through His triumph, Christ received all power and commissioned His followers to spread the gospel globally (Matthew 28:18-20):
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, teaching them to observe all things…”
This gospel, represented in the Three Angels’ Messages of Revelation 14:6-13, calls all peoples to worship God as Creator, categorically reject false doctrines, and steadfastly remain faithful to His commandments. The first angel proclaims the everlasting gospel, calling all nations to:

The second angel announces the fall of Babylon, a system of false worship. The third angel warns against worshiping the beast and receiving its mark, emphasizing the importance of true worship on the seventh-day Sabbath. The prophecy, further, assures that those who remain faithful to God and His commandments will be blessed. The Three Angels’ Messages, ultimately, emphasize God’s call for true worship and faithfulness in the last days, preparing believers for His imminent return.
